Installation of automatic transmission
Installation
- · Before installation, remove the safety plate installed earlier to protect the torque converter.
- · Check the installed position of the torque converter as follows:
- Place a metal straightedge or a bar with a flat edge against the end of the A/T case. - Using another steel rule or a vernier caliper, measure the distances between the edge of the bar and the ends of the bosses for the torque converter-to-drive plate bolts.
- The measured distances must conform to the specifications. If the distances are less than specified, the torque converter may not be fully seated in the A/T. Try to reseat it.
- · Rotate the torque converter so that its bolt holes align with the corresponding holes in the drive plate.
- · Raise the A/T and align it with the engine.
- · Install the A/T mounting bolts and tighten them to the specified torque (64 N*m).
- · Install and tighten the A/T mount bolts.
- · Thoroughly clean the threads of the torque converter-to-drive plate bolts and apply a thin coat of thread sealant to them.
- · Install the torque converter-to-drive plate bolts and tighten them to the specified torque.
- · Install the transmission-to-engine mounting plate.
- · Install the front subframe.
- · Install in the reverse order of removal, observing the following recommendations:
- Tighten all fasteners to the specified torque where specified in the Specifications; - install the starter motor; - connect and adjust the selector cable; - connect the steering column universal joint to the rack pinion gear; - install the exhaust inlet pipe and the center section of the muffler; - install the drive shafts; - connect and adjust the kickdown cable; - finally, fill the A/T with fluid; - fill and bleed the power steering system.
