PROCEDURE

The intermediate shaft can only be removed if the engine is removed from the vehicle. The intermediate shaft mounting flange has an oil passage on the reverse side and can only be installed in one position. Maximum intermediate shaft axial clearance is 0.25 mm; if the clearance is greater, replace the flange. Removal and installation procedure for the intermediate shaft is the same as for the shaft in engines with 1.6 and 1.8 L displacement.

Intermediate shaft pulley bolt torque 45 N·m. When installing a new pulley on engines built before January 1984, the clearance must be 0.5 mm (see figure: Clearance between intermediate shaft pulley and high-pressure fuel pump bracket).
