PROCEDURE
On diesel engines, unlike gasoline engines, the flywheel is attached to the clutch pressure plate, which in turn is attached to the crankshaft. Removal and Installation PROCEDURE 1. Lock the flywheel by inserting a suitable metal lever into the ring gear teeth, or use a special tool. 2. Evenly loosen the flywheel bolts by 1–2 turns. 3. Remove the flywheel bolts. 4. Remove the flywheel from the clutch driven disc. 5. Inspect the flywheel. If there are cracks, deep scratches, signs of wear on the friction surface, or damaged ring gear teeth, replace the flywheel.Check that the locating dowels in the flywheel are a tight fit. If the dowels are loose, replace them. 6. Install the flywheel in reverse order. Tighten the flywheel bolts evenly in a crisscross pattern to 20 N·m. 7. For clutch driven disc installation, see steps 6–9 of subsection 4.3. 8. On vehicles with automatic transmission, remove and install the drive plate in the same way as on vehicles with 1.1 and 1.3 L engines.
