General information
- Drive carefully on new tires for the first 500 km.
- Drive over curbs or similar obstacles slowly and, if possible, at a right angle.
- Check tires from time to time for damage (holes, cuts, tears and bulges).
Remove foreign objects that have become lodged in the tread.
- Have defective wheels or tires replaced immediately.
- Protect tires from contact with oil, grease or fuel.
- Replace lost valve caps immediately.
- Mark wheels before removing them so that they are refitted in the same direction of rotation.
- Store removed wheels or tires in a cool, dry place, protected from light where possible.
New tires
Initially, the grip of new tires is not yet optimal; tires should therefore be 'run in' during the first 500 km by driving more carefully at moderate speed. This also contributes to their service life.
The tread depth of new tires varies - depending on model and manufacturer - due to different construction characteristics and different tread patterns.
Hidden damage
Damage to tires and rims often goes unnoticed. If the vehicle vibrates unusually or pulls to one side, this may indicate a damaged tire.
If you suspect a wheel is damaged, reduce your speed immediately. Check whether the tires are damaged. If no external damage can be detected, drive slowly and carefully to the nearest specialist workshop to have the vehicle checked.
Directional tires
The sidewall of directional tires is marked with arrows.
Always observe the direction of rotation indicated. This ensures optimal rolling properties: reduced aquaplaning, better grip, reduced noise and wear.
