Anti-slip regulation (ASR)
Anti-slip regulation prevents the drive wheels from spinning when accelerating.
General information
Anti-slip regulation (ASR) is an integral part of the electronic differential lock EDS).
Anti-slip regulation makes starting, accelerating and climbing on very poor road surfaces easier, or even possible.
Operation
ASR works automatically, without any intervention by the driver. The system monitors the speed of the drive wheels via the ABS sensors. When the wheels spin, the drive force is adapted to the road surface by automatically reducing engine speed. The system operates at all speed ranges.
Anti-slip regulation works in combination with the ABS system. If the ABS system is faulty, anti-slip regulation does not function.
Note
For anti-slip regulation ASR to work perfectly, it is essential that all four wheels are fitted with the same tires. Different rolling circumferences may cause an undesired reduction in engine output. See also "New wheels and tires".
