Central locking

~8min read

Description

Central locking allows you to lock and unlock all doors, the tailgate and the fuel filler flap simultaneously.

The central locking system locks or unlocks all doors and the fuel filler flap simultaneously. When the vehicle locks are unlocked, the tailgate lock is also unlocked. However, you can only open the tailgate by operating the handle. You can lock and unlock the vehicle either with the remote control or with the key in the driver's door lock.

You can open and close the windows using the central locking system. The panoramic/tilt sunroof* can only be closed using the central locking system.

The central locking system has an anti-theft feature.

When you lock the vehicle from the outside, the interior door handles are blocked. This makes break-in attempts more difficult.

If the central locking system fails, you can operate all locks individually. If necessary, the fuel filler flap can be unlocked in an emergency. To unlock the fuel filler flap in an emergency

Automatic locking (Auto Lock)

The Auto Lock function locks the doors and tailgate automatically from a speed of approximately 15 km/h.

The locks unlock automatically when you remove the ignition key. The driver can also unlock the vehicle by pressing the e3d unlock function on the central locking control or by opening a door.

CAUTION!

If the vehicle is locked from the outside and the anti-theft protection is activated, no one - and especially no children - should be left in the vehicle, as it is impossible to open the doors and windows from the inside. By locking the doors, you make it more difficult for rescue services to gain access from outside - risk of death!

Note

  • If the central locking fails, the driver's door and tailgate can be locked and unlocked with the key. To unlock the fuel filler flap in an emergency, see: Emergency unlocking of the fuel filler flap. Emergency locking of the doors
  • The anti-theft locking system* and the anti-theft alarm system* cannot be activated if the central locking is faulty.
  • Never leave valuables unattended in the vehicle. Even when locked, a vehicle is not a safe.
  • Unlocking with the key

    • Turn the key in the driver's door lock to the unlock positionto the left.

    • Lift the handle to open the door.
    • All doors, the fuel filler flap and the tailgate are unlocked.
    • The anti-theft locking system is deactivated.

    Locking with the key

    • Turn the key in the driver's door lock to the lock position (B) => fig. 47 to the right => A
    • All doors and the tailgate lock.
    • Interior lights whose switch is in the door contact switch position go out.
    • The windows and the sunroof* close as long as you hold the key in the lock position.
    • The anti-theft locking system is activated immediately.

Locking the vehicle without activating the anti-theft locking system

When activated, the anti-theft locking system makes break-in attempts more difficult. Activating the anti-theft locking system disables the door opening handles and the central locking control.

If people must remain in the vehicle, you can lock the doors without activating the anti-theft locking system.

Turn the key in the driver's door lock twice in quick succession to the lock position (b) fig. 47.

    CAUTION!

If the vehicle is locked from outside and the anti-theft locking system is activated, no one, especially children, must remain in the vehicle, because the doors and windows cannot be opened from inside. By locking the doors, you make it more difficult for rescue services to reach you from outside - risk of death!

    Note

    • Remember that when you lock the vehicle without activating the anti-theft locking system, the anti-theft alarm system* is armed. The interior monitoring must first be switched off, because the alarm could trigger accidentally.
    • It is not possible to lock the driver's door while it is open. You must lock it after closing it. This way you will not end up outside the vehicle with the doors locked and the keys inside.

The control on the driver's door is used to operate the central locking system from inside.

    CAUTION!

The central locking control works even when the ignition is switched off. It locks all doors and the tailgate automatically. Since it is impossible to get into the vehicle in an emergency when the doors are locked, never leave children unattended in the vehicle. By locking the doors, you make it more difficult for rescue services to reach you from outside in an emergency - risk of death!
