System limits. Malfunction

~2min read

This section describes the limits of the tire pressure monitoring system in the BMW 5 G30. Sudden tire damage, temperature fluctuations and missing resets can impair the function. External interference from radio frequencies or incorrectly fitted wheels are also named as possible causes of malfunctions. The driver is asked to check the system regularly and to seek professional advice if problems occur. This ensures safety at all times.

System limitations

Temperature

The tire pressure depends on the tire temperature.

When the tire temperature rises, e.g. while driving or due to sunlight, the tire pressure increases.

The tire pressure decreases when the tire temperature drops.

Due to this behavior, a warning may be displayed if temperatures drop significantly, based on the warning limits.

After a temperature-related warning, the target pressures are displayed again on the Control Display after a short drive.

Sudden tire pressure loss

The system cannot give warning of serious sudden tire damage caused by external influences.

Reset not carried out

Run-flat tires: The system does not function correctly if a reset has not been carried out, e.g. a tire puncture is reported even though the tire pressures are correct.

Malfunction

The yellow warning lamp flashes and then lights up continuously. A Check Control message is displayed.

Tire pressure losses may not be detected.

In these cases:

  • A wheel without RDC wheel electronics is fitted, e.g.

Temporary spare wheel: Have the wheels checked if necessary.

  • Malfunction: Have the system checked.
  • Interference from systems or devices using the same radio frequency: After leaving the area of interference, the system becomes active again automatically.
  • Run-flat tires: The system was unable to complete the reset.
  • Carry out a system reset again.

Battery care and the information on battery types for the BMW 5 G30/G31 make clear how important correct handling is for the vehicle's functional reliability. Only batteries approved by the manufacturer ensure proper interaction with the vehicle electrical system and driver assistance systems.

Particular emphasis is placed on proper installation and initialization after a battery replacement. These procedures ensure that all systems, such as the Start-Stop function or comfort functions, operate correctly.

The BMW 5 Series G30/G31 combines state-of-the-art technology with clear specifications to ensure reliability and safety, including in the power supply.
