EMERGENCY BRAKE ASSIST
Overview
Emergency Valve Assistant (EVA 2) reduces braking distance in the event of a sudden brake application.
The brake control consists of a specific master cylinder and a new-generation brake booster.
The hydromechanical system has 2 states:
- during slow braking, the booster ratio is 6.6,
- In emergency braking, the boost ratio is 23.
The force applied to the brake pedal determines the switch from the slow braking ratio to the boost braking ratio.
When the brake pedal application speed exceeds a threshold of 580.8 mm/s, the emergency braking ratio is activated and the pressure generated in the master cylinder is higher.
This action is triggered by a mechanical 'double piston' system located upstream of the brake assist system.
When the brake pedal is pressed firmly, the primary piston actuates a second piston, producing maximum pressure in the brake circuit until ABS control takes over.

ABS/ASR
Traction control (ASR)
The traction control (ASR) function prevents the driven wheels from spinning during acceleration.
This maintains the vehicle's directional stability and manoeuvrability.
The system brakes each driven wheel independently to prevent it from spinning. The ABS/ASR control unit analyses the wheel sensor signals and determines whether a wheel spin situation exists when starting on low-grip surfaces.
In this case, the ABS/ASR control unit commands braking of the wheel(s) that are spinning.
Brake compensator
The ABS/ASR MK 60 control unit incorporates the electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) system.
Therefore, the vehicle does not have a brake proportioning valve.
The hub is fitted with a bearing with an integrated magnetic encoder ring (48 pole pairs).
