Functional block diagram

Operating phase when +APC is switched on
The BSI compares the last displayed fuel level with the raw level reported by the fuel gauge (variable resistor fitted with a float).
If there is a significant difference, the raw level information is displayed.
Otherwise, the last reading remains displayed.
Operating phase while driving
The fuel gauge is no longer used.
The engine ECU sends the fuel consumption information to the BSI via the CAN network.
The BSI calculates the fuel level based on consumption and broadcasts the result on the VAN Comfort network.
The instrument cluster then converts the fuel level into a needle angle.
Special case: low fuel warning
When the fuel gauge indicates a level below X litres, the BSI sends the low fuel information to the instrument cluster via the VAN Comfort network.
The BSI also sends the raw fuel level to the engine ECU.
Warning light V5 comes on in the instrument cluster.
Display
The fuel level is converted into a needle angle as shown in the following diagram:

Note: When the ignition is switched on, the needle may take up to 2 seconds to reach a stable position.
Degraded mode
If a communication error occurs on the network or an invalid value is received, the needle returns to its rest position 5 seconds after the fault appears. During this time, the last value received is displayed.
