GENERAL INFORMATION.

Unlike other three-phase machines, the CS-121 generator uses only two.

positive lead (+) and to terminal L of the battery discharge warning light. Terminals P, I, S are auxiliary. Terminal P is connected to the stator winding.

stator and can be used to operate a tachometer or other instruments. As with other

vehicles, the battery discharge warning light comes on when the ignition is switched on.

ignition. After the engine starts, the warning light should go out. If the light does not

go out after the engine starts, the alternator is faulty. The indicator glows at full

brightness when voltage in the electrical system rises or drops significantly..

The voltage regulator controls the rotor field current to stabilize

voltage in the vehicle electrical system. The regulator periodically (at a frequency of about 400

Hz) switches the current in the alternator field winding on and off. The average field winding current and alternator voltage depend on the ratio

of the on and off phase durations of the current. At high rotor speed

the on-phase duration decreases to 10% of the period, and at low speed it increases to 90% of the period.
