Procedure for diesel versions
Proceed as follows:
- Apply the parking brake;
- Place the gear lever in neutral;
- Turn the key to MAR: the warning lights on the instrument panel light up
and
(or
the symbol on the display); - The warning lights going out

(or the symbol on the display) and
wait for this to happen, which occurs faster the warmer the engine is; - Fully depress the clutch pedal, without pressing the accelerator pedal;
- Turn the ignition key to START immediately after the warning lamp goes out.
Waiting too long will cancel the glow plug preheating process. Release the key immediately after the engine starts.
Note: When the engine is cold, do NOT press the accelerator pedal at all while turning the key to START.
If the engine does not start at the first attempt, turn the key back to STOP before repeating the procedure.
If, with the key at MAR, the warning light
on the instrument panel
(or the symbol on the display) remains on, turn the key back to STOP and then to MAR (ON). If the warning lamp stays on, try again with the other keys supplied.
If the engine still does not start, contact the Fiat service network.
Note: With the engine switched off, the ignition key should never be left in MAR (ON).
Flashing of the m lamp for 60 seconds during or after a possibly prolonged starting attempt indicates a fault in the glow plug system. If the vehicle starts, it can be used normally, but the Fiat service network must be contacted as soon as possible.
