HH system (hill holder)
It is an integral part of the ESC system and makes hill starts easier. It activates automatically on an uphill road: vehicle stopped on a road with a gradient greater than 5%, engine running, brake pedal pressed and gearbox in neutral or a gear other than reverse engaged; on a downhill road: vehicle stopped on a road with a gradient greater than 5%, engine running, clutch and brake pedals pressed and reverse gear engaged.
During the start-off phase, the ESC control unit maintains brake pressure at the wheels until the engine produces the torque needed to move off, or for a maximum of 2 seconds, allowing you to move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal. If the vehicle does not move off after this time, the system deactivates automatically, gradually reducing pressure in the braking system. During this phase, a typical mechanical brake release noise may be heard; this signals that you must move off immediately.
NOTE The Hill Holder system is inactive when the parking brake is applied.
WARNING The Hill Holder system is not a parking brake. Therefore, do not leave the vehicle without applying the parking brake, switching off the engine and engaging first gear. This is the only way to leave the vehicle in safe conditions.
