What is the Rearview Camera

The Rearview Camera provides a video image of the area behind your vehicle when the transmission is in Reverse (R).

Rearview Camera Precautions

Rearview Camera Location

The Rearview Camera is located on the liftgate. It provides a video image of the area behind your vehicle.

Rearview Camera Guideline Lines

Ford Escape. Rear View Camera
  1. Active Guidelines.
  2. Centerline.
  3. Fixed Guideline: Green Zone.
  4. Fixed Guideline: Yellow Zone.
  5. Fixed Guideline: Red Zone.
  6. Rear Bumper.

Active guidelines are only displayed with fixed guidelines. To use the active guidelines, turn the steering wheel to direct the guidelines to the intended path. If the steering wheel position changes while reversing, your vehicle may deviate from the intended path.

Fixed and active guidelines also disappear depending on steering wheel position. Active guidelines are not displayed when the steering wheel position is straight.

Use caution when backing up. Objects in the red zone are closest to your vehicle, and objects in the green zone are farther away. Objects are approaching your vehicle when they move from the green zone into the yellow or red zones. Use the side mirrors and the rearview mirror to see better on both sides and behind your vehicle.

Backup Camera Object Distance Indicators

The system displays an image of your vehicle and the sensing zones. The zones highlight green, yellow, and red when the Parking Aid Sensors detect an object within the coverage area.

Backup Camera Settings

Backup Camera Zoom In and Zoom Out

Selectable settings for this feature are zoom in (+) and zoom out (-). Press the symbol on the camera screen to change the view. The default setting is off.

This allows you to get a closer view of an object behind your vehicle. The zoomed image keeps the bumper in the image to provide a reference. Zoom is only active when Reverse (R) is selected.

Turning the Backup Camera Delay On and Off

  1. Press Features on the touchscreen.
  2. Press Driver Assist.
  3. Press Backup Camera.
  4. Turn Backup Camera Delay on or off.

When shifting from Reverse (R) to any gear other than Park (P), the camera image remains displayed until:

Your vehicle speed reaches approximately 5 mph (8 km/h).

You shift your vehicle into Park (P).
