Stability Control
How Electronic Stability Control Works
If driving conditions activate either Stability Control or Traction Control, you may experience the following conditions:
- The Stability and Traction Control indicator flashes.
- Your vehicle decelerates.
- Engine power is reduced.
The stability control system has several features built in to help you maintain control of your vehicle:
Electronic Stability Control
Electronic Stability Control improves your vehicle's ability to prevent skids or side slides by applying the brakes to one or more individual wheels and, if necessary, reducing engine power.
Roll Stability Control
Roll Stability Control improves your vehicle's ability to prevent rollover by detecting the roll of your vehicle and the rate at which it changes when applying the brake to one or more wheels individually.
Curve Control
Cornering Control improves the handling of your vehicle, that is, its ability to follow the road through turns or avoid objects on the roadway. Cornering Control works by reducing engine power and, if necessary, applying the brakes to one or more wheels individually.
Traction Control
Traction Control improves the handling of your vehicle, that is, its ability to maintain wheel traction by detecting and controlling wheel spin.

- Without the stability control system, the vehicle may go off the intended path.
- The vehicle with the stability control system helps maintain control on slippery surfaces.
Turning the Stability Control System On and Off
The system turns on each time the ignition is switched on.
When you shift into reverse (R), the systems are turned off. You can turn the Traction Control system off or on independently.
Stability Control Indicator
The system turns on each time you start the vehicle. You can turn off the traction control part of the system independently.

Stability Control
Flashes when the system is active. If it remains on or does not come on when you turn the ignition on, this indicates a system fault. During a system fault, the system turns off. Have the system checked by an authorized dealer immediately.
Stability Control Off
Comes on when the system is turned off. It turns off when you turn the system on again or when you switch the ignition off.
