Your vehicle is equipped with electronic control modules that have data recording capability and the ability to store data permanently or temporarily. This data may include information on the status and condition of your vehicle, vehicle maintenance requirements, events and malfunctions. The types of data that may be recorded are described in this section. Some recorded data is stored in event logs or error logs.

Recorded data includes, for example:

  • Operating conditions of system components, such as fuel level, tire pressure and battery charge level.
  • Vehicle and component status, for example wheel rotation speed, deceleration, lateral acceleration and seat belt position status.
  • Events or malfunctions in major systems, such as headlamps and brakes.
  • System responses to road situations, such as airbag deployment and stability control.
  • Environmental conditions, such as temperature.

Some of this data, when used in combination with other information, for example an accident report, vehicle damage or eyewitness statements, may be associated with a specific individual.
