For circuit and connector information, refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 46.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

The RCM continuously monitors the passenger seatbelt pretensioner circuits for the following concerns:

  • Resistance Out of Range
  • Unexpected Voltage
  • Short to Ground
  • Passenger seat belt pretensioner anchor fault

When a fault is detected, the RCM stores DTC B007F:11, B007F:12, B007F:13 or B007F:1A in memory and sends a message to the IPC to illuminate the airbag warning indicator.

The RCM analyzes the deployment loop resistance to determine if a malfunction is present. The value displayed in the PID is the deployment loop resistance measured by the RCM. If the displayed value is below or above the required range (refer to the chart below), the RCM may set a DTC. As the deployment loop resistance moves further outside the desired range, the likelihood of a DTC increases. Small fluctuations in resistance may occur due to the effect of road vibrations on the terminal fitting. Crimps and terminals may be affected by stress and movement of the seat belt and may cause an increase in resistance due to wire tension. These variables may result in an intermittent fault. For this reason, the test requires the PID value to be within the desired range before the fault is considered repaired, regardless of whether the module reports the DTC on demand at the time of diagnosis. Following this direction helps ensure that minor resistance changes do not cause repeat concerns. This test uses a process of elimination to diagnose each part of the deployment circuit, including:

  • Wiring
  • Connections
  • Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner
  • RCM

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Trouble Code Description Fault Trigger Conditions
B007F:11 Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner "C" Deployment Control: Short to Ground The fault is indicated when the RCM detects a short to ground in the passenger seatbelt pretensioner circuit for more than 6 seconds.
B007F:12 Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner Deployment Control "C": Short to Battery The fault is indicated when the RCM detects a short to battery voltage in the passenger seatbelt pretensioner circuit for more than 6 seconds.
B007F: 13 Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner Deployment Control "C": Open Circuit The fault is indicated when the RCM measures a resistance between the passenger seatbelt pretensioner circuits greater than the desired range for more than 6 seconds.
B007F: 1A Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner Deployment Control "C": Circuit Resistance Below Threshold The fault is indicated when the RCM measures a resistance between the passenger seatbelt pretensioner circuits less than the desired range for more than 6 seconds.

Ford Fusion. Pinpoint Test - DTC: M. Diagnosis and Testing WARNING: Do not touch, move or alter the original horizontal mounting position of the Restraints Control Module (RCM) while the RCM is connected and the ignition is ON. Failure to follow this instruction may result in accidental deployment of the airbag and cause serious injury or death.
NOTE: Most concerns are related to connector and/or wiring issues. Perform a thorough inspection and check before proceeding to the Pinpoint Test.
NOTE: Only disconnect or reconnect SRS components when instructed to do so in the Pinpoint Test step. Failure to follow this instruction may result in an incorrect SRS diagnosis.
NOTE: Always verify that the correct SRS component is being installed. Parts released for other vehicles may not be compatible, even if they appear physically similar. Check the part number listed in the Ford parts catalog to confirm the correct component is being installed. If an incorrect SRS component is installed, diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may be set.
NOTE: Before returning the vehicle to the customer, the SRS must be fully functional and operating correctly.
