Low Engine Oil Level Warning Light

Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil level sensor. If the symbol "
" appears on the multifunction information display while the engine is running, the oil level in the oil pan is insufficient.
When this symbol appears on the display, an audible signal sounds. If you have set the display to show text messages with symbols, the message "CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL" is also shown on the multifunction information display (see page 103).
When this symbol appears, pull over in a safe place, park the vehicle on level ground, turn off the engine, and wait approximately 3 minutes.
Check the oil level. If the oil level is at or below the minimum mark on the dipstick, add engine oil (see page 368 for gasoline engine versions and page 370 for diesel engine versions).
Do not fill the oil above the upper dipstick mark, and try not to spill oil in the engine compartment. This may cause engine malfunction and damage to other vehicle equipment.
If you have not made sure that the vehicle carries a spare supply of oil, you may drive at a moderate speed to the nearest service station and add oil to the engine. Do not drive at high speed or press the accelerator pedal fully down.
The oil level warning light and warning message are reset each time you turn off the engine. When you restart the engine to continue driving, the system begins monitoring the engine oil level again.
The system needs some time to detect low engine oil level before the low oil level symbol appears on the multi-function information display, which may be accompanied by a text message. If the multi-function display shows the symbol, which may be accompanied by the text message "CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL", check the engine oil level with the dipstick and add oil if necessary before continuing to drive.

WARNING
If you ignore the low oil level warning and continue to drive without taking the necessary action, you risk serious engine damage.
This system is activated after the engine has warmed up. In very low outside temperatures, you may drive a considerable distance before the system warns you of a low engine oil level.
Engine oil level sensor malfunction

If the symbol “
” appears on the multi-function display, which may be accompanied by the message "CHECK SYSTEM", there may be a problem with the oil level sensor. You will also hear a warning tone. Have the vehicle inspected and repaired at an authorized dealer service center as soon as possible.
