The Shift Indicator can be used as a guide to help you choose the optimal shift point for better fuel economy.

Illumination of the Shift Indicator for the next higher or lower gear means that the optimal point has been reached for shifting up or down for better fuel economy.

You can improve fuel economy by accelerating and braking smoothly and by following the recommendations of the Shift Indicators for the next higher and lower gears.

This indicator does not recommend downshifting to first gear. When downshifting to first gear for increased engine braking, rely on your own judgment.

Avoid sudden engine braking.

Depending on road conditions and traffic, it may be necessary to shift gears regardless of the indicator recommendations.

If the shift indicator system malfunctions, the indicators will not illuminate. Contact your dealer to have the vehicle checked.

The Downshift Indicator for the next lower gear illuminates to advise you when to downshift while accelerating uphill or during hard acceleration on level road.

For vehicles equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

When the ACC system is on, the Shift Indicators for the next higher and lower gears illuminate to inform you that the engine has reached the maximum speed for the gear you have selected.
