Reverse Gear Lockout
The manual transmission is equipped with a device that prevents accidental shifting from any forward gear into reverse while the vehicle is moving above a certain speed. If you cannot engage reverse with the vehicle stopped, perform the following steps:

1. Depress the clutch pedal. Move the shift lever in the neutral gate toward first or second gear, then try to engage reverse.
2. If you still cannot engage reverse, apply the parking brake and turn the ignition key to the ACCESSORY (I) or LOCK (0) position.
3. Depress the clutch pedal and engage reverse gear.
4. Keep the clutch pedal depressed and start the engine.
If you had to use the above procedure to engage reverse, a malfunction may exist in the vehicle.
Take the vehicle to a dealer service center for diagnosis.
