Collision Mitigation-Braking System (CMBS)
For vehicles equipped with adaptive cruise control
General Information
Collision Mitigation System
The CMBS helps the driver avoid a collision with the vehicle ahead. The system reduces the vehicle speed before a collision with another vehicle becomes unavoidable and, where possible, warns the driver of a possible collision with an audible signal. A brief description of CMBS operation is provided below.
• If the vehicle speed exceeds 15 km/h, the CMBS radar sensor built into the radiator grille can detect a vehicle ahead. If you approach it too closely, the system may issue a warning and activate the brakes, and also pretension the seat belts (for information on advanced seat belt pretensioners, refer to page 32).
• The CMBS does not activate if the speed difference between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead does not exceed 15 km/h. In addition, the CMBS does not activate if you turn the steering wheel to avoid a collision.
When the CMBS activates, the brake lights also illuminate.

The CMBS consists of a radar sensor built into the radiator grille, a brake actuator located in the engine compartment, a warning light on the instrument panel, advanced front seat belt pretensioners, and a switch on the control panel.
