Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is located inside the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor and detects the intake air temperature. To calculate the exact air volume, air temperature correction is required because air density changes with temperature. Therefore, the ECM uses both the MAP signal and the IAT signal. This sensor uses a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor, and its resistance changes inversely with temperature.
