Engine Control System/Fuel System

Description and Operation - Injector

~1min read

Description

Based on information from various sensors, the ECM calculates the amount of fuel to be injected. The fuel injector is a solenoid valve, and the amount of injected fuel is controlled by the injection duration. The ECM controls each injector by grounding its control circuit. When the ECM supplies power to the injector by grounding the control circuit, the circuit voltage should be low (theoretically 0 V) and fuel is injected. When the ECM de-energizes the injector by opening the control circuit, the fuel injector closes and the circuit voltage should briefly reach a peak.
