Check Tire Pressure
Check your tires, including the spare tire, once a month or more often.
How to Check
Use a good tire pressure gauge to check tire pressure. You cannot tell whether your tires are properly inflated just by looking at them. Radial tires may look properly inflated even when they are underinflated.
Remove the valve cap from the tire valve stem. Press the tire gauge firmly onto the valve to get a pressure reading. If the cold tire pressure matches the recommended tire pressure and load information label, no further adjustment is necessary. If the pressure is low, add air until you reach the recommended pressure. Be sure to reinstall the valve caps on the valve stems. Without the valve cap, dirt or moisture may enter the valve core and cause an air leak. If a valve cap is missing, install a new one as soon as possible.
If you have overinflated a tire, release air by pressing the metal pin in the center of the tire valve. Recheck the tire pressure with a tire gauge. Be sure to reinstall the valve caps on the valve stems. Without the valve cap, dirt or moisture may enter the valve core and cause an air leak. If a valve cap is missing, install a new one as soon as possible.
