Maximum Tongue Load

~1min read

The trailer tongue load is an important factor to measure, as it affects the total Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). The tongue must weigh no more than 10% of the total loaded trailer weight, within the maximum permitted tongue load limit.

After loading the trailer, weigh the trailer and the tow vehicle separately to check whether the weights are correct.

If they are not, you can correct them by moving some items within the trailer.

WARNING Observe the following precautions: - Never load a trailer with more weight at the rear than at the front. The front should carry about 60% of the load, while the rear carries 40%. - Do not exceed the maximum trailer weight or towing equipment limits. Incorrect loading can cause vehicle damage and/or personal injury. Check the weights and load on a commercial scale or at a police station equipped with a scale.
