The manual transmission has five forward gears. The transmission is fully synchronized in all forward gears, so shifting up or down is very easy.

WARNING Before leaving the driver's seat, always make sure the gear lever is in 1st gear if the vehicle is parked on an uphill slope, or in R (Reverse) if parked on a downhill slope, apply the parking brake, and turn the ignition switch to LOCK/OFF. If these precautions are not observed, the vehicle may move unexpectedly.

To shift into R (Reverse), make sure the vehicle is completely stopped, then shift the gear lever to Neutral before shifting into R (Reverse).

When the vehicle is completely stopped and it is difficult to engage 1st gear or R (Reverse):

1. Move the gear lever to Neutral and release the clutch pedal.

2. Press the clutch pedal again and shift into 1st or Reverse.

NOTE

In cold weather, gear shifting may be difficult until the transmission fluid has warmed up.
