Driving Your Vehicle

Proper Braking Practices

~1min read

WARNING

Each time you leave the vehicle or park it, always wait until it stops completely and keep depressing the brake pedal. Always shift the manual transmission into first gear or the automatic transmission into P (Park), then apply the parking brake and turn the ignition key to the LOCK/OFF position.

If the parking brake is not fully applied, the vehicle may move unexpectedly and cause injury to you and others.

Wet brakes can be dangerous! Brakes may become wet when driving through standing water or after washing the vehicle. Your vehicle will take longer to stop with wet brakes and it may also pull to one side.

To dry the brakes, lightly press the brake pedal until braking action returns to normal, while maintaining control of the vehicle at all times. If braking does not return to normal, we recommend stopping the vehicle as soon as possible and contacting an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Do not rest your foot on the brake pedal. Light but constant pressure on the pedal may cause the brakes to overheat, brake wear and possibly brake failure.

If a tire goes flat while driving, gently apply the brakes and keep the vehicle straight while decelerating. Drive slowly enough so there is no risk of leaving the road, and stop in a safe place.

To prevent rolling forward, keep your foot firmly on the brake pedal when the vehicle is stopped.
