Electric Brakes
In this manual: Driving Your Vehicle
~1min read
Your vehicle is equipped with power brakes, which are adjusted automatically during normal use.
If the engine stops or stalls while driving, brake assist will not be available.
You can still stop your vehicle by applying greater force to the brake pedal than under normal conditions. However, the braking distance will be longer than with power brakes.
With the engine off, the reserve brake assist capacity is reduced partially with each brake pedal application. Do not pump the brake pedal when brake assist is not available.
Apply the brake pedal only when necessary to maintain control on slippery surfaces.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions:
- Do not rest your foot on the brake pedal. This may cause abnormally high brake temperatures, excessive brake pad and shoe wear, and increased stopping distances.
- When descending a long or steep hill, shift to a lower gear and avoid continuous braking. Prolonged braking will overheat the brakes and may cause a temporary loss of braking effectiveness.
- Wet brakes may cause the vehicle to pull to one side when the brakes are applied, or may reduce braking effectiveness. Always check the brakes this way after driving through deep water. To dry the brakes, lightly apply the brake pedal while maintaining a safe speed until braking performance returns to normal. Avoid high-speed driving if the brakes do not function properly.
