Parking Brake

When leaving the vehicle, always use the parking brake:
Firmly depress the brake pedal.
Pull the parking brake lever up as far as possible.
WARNING
To avoid SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH, do not apply the parking brake while the vehicle is moving, except in an emergency. This may damage the brake system and cause an accident.

To release:
Firmly depress the brake pedal.
Slightly pull the parking brake lever up.
Lower the parking brake lever (2) while holding down the button (1).
If the parking brake does not release or releases only partially, we recommend that your vehicle's system be inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
WARNING
- Each time you leave the vehicle or park it, always wait until the vehicle has come to a complete stop and keep the brake pedal depressed. Always shift the manual transmission into first gear, or the automatic transmission into P (Park), then apply the parking brake and turn the ignition key to the LOCK position. If the parking brake is not fully applied, the vehicle may move unexpectedly and injure you or others.
- NEVER allow anyone unfamiliar with the vehicle, or children, to touch the parking brake. An unintentionally applied parking brake may result in serious injury.
- Release the parking brake only while seated in the vehicle with your foot firmly depressing the brake pedal.
NOTICE
- Do not depress the accelerator pedal while the parking brake is applied. If you depress the accelerator pedal, a warning tone will sound. This may damage the parking brake.
- Driving with the parking brake applied may overheat the brake system and cause premature wear or damage to brake components. Before driving, make sure the parking brake is released and the brake warning light is off.

Check the brake warning light by turning the ignition key to the ON position (do not start the engine).
This warning light illuminates when the parking brake is applied with the ignition switch in the START or ON position.
Before driving, make sure the parking brake is released and the brake warning light is off.
If the parking brake warning light remains on after releasing the parking brake with the engine running, the brake system may have a malfunction. Have it inspected immediately.
If possible, stop the vehicle immediately. If this is not possible, drive with extreme caution and only until you reach a safe place.
