The High Beam Assist (HBA) is a system that automatically adjusts the headlight range (switches between high and low beam) according to the brightness of other vehicles and road conditions.

Operating Condition

1. Set the light switch to the AUTO position.

2. Turn on the high beam by pushing the lever away from you. The High Beam Assist (HBA) indicator (Hyundai i30. High Beam Assist (HBA)) will illuminate.

3. The High Beam Assist (HBA) will activate when the vehicle speed is above 25 mph (45 km/h).

3. The High Beam Assist (HBA) will activate when the vehicle speed is above 25 mph (45 km/h).

  • If the light switch is pushed away while the High Beam Assist (HBA) system is operating, the HBA system will turn off and the high beam will remain on continuously.
  • If the light switch is pulled toward you when the high beam is off, the high beam turns on without the High Beam Assist (HBA) system being canceled. When you release the light switch, the lever will return to the middle position and the high beam will turn off.
  • If the light switch is pulled toward you while the high beam is on with the High Beam Assist (HBA) system, the low beam will turn on and the High Beam Assist (HBA) will turn off.
  • If the light switch is in the headlight position, High Beam Assist (HBA) will turn off and the low beam will remain on continuously.

When the High Beam Assist (HBA) system is operating, the high beam switches to low beam under the following conditions.

- When an oncoming vehicle is detected in the headlight range.
- When a preceding vehicle's tail lamp is detected in the headlight range.
- When a motorcycle or bicycle is detected by the headlight or tail lamp.
- When the ambient light is bright enough that high beams are not required.
- When street lights or other light sources are detected.
- When the light switch is not in the AUTO position.
- When the High Beam Assist (HBA) is turned off.
- When the vehicle speed is below 22 mph (35 km/h).
