Lane Keep Assist (LKA)

~2min read
Hyundai Palisade. Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system

The Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system helps detect lane markings on the road with the windshield-mounted front view camera and assists the driver with steering to help keep the vehicle centered between the lanes.

When the system detects the vehicle drifting out of its lane, it warns the driver with visual and audible warnings and applies counter-steering torque to help prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane.

WARNING

The Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system does not replace safe driving practices; it is only a convenience function. It is the driver's responsibility to always stay alert to the surroundings and control the vehicle.

WARNING

Observe the following precautions when using the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system:

  • Do not turn the steering wheel suddenly while the system is assisting steering.
  • The LKA system helps prevent the driver from unintentionally leaving the lane by assisting the driver in steering the vehicle. However, the driver should not rely solely on the system; always pay attention to the steering wheel to stay in the lane.
  • LKA operation may be canceled or may not function properly depending on road and surrounding conditions. Always drive with caution.
  • Do not disassemble the LKA system camera, temporarily tint the window, or attach any kind of covers or accessories. If the camera is disassembled and reinstalled, take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the system checked for calibration.
  • When replacing the windshield or related LKA system camera or parts, take the vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the system checked for calibration.
  • The system helps detect the lane line and controls steering of the vehicle using a camera. Therefore, if the lane lines are hard to detect, the system may not operate properly. Please refer to the "System Limitations" section.
  • Do not remove or damage the related parts of the LKA system.
  • You may not hear the LKA system warning sound if the volume is set high.
  • If another warning sound, such as the seat belt reminder warning sound, is already generated, the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system warning may not sound.
  • Do not place items on the instrument panel that reflect light, such as mirrors or white paper. This may interfere with the LKA system operating properly.
  • Always keep your hands on the steering wheel while the LKA system is activated.
  • The steering wheel is not continuously controlled, so if the vehicle speed is above the lane departure speed, the vehicle may not be controlled by the system. The driver must always observe the speed limit when using the system.
  • If you attach objects to the steering wheel, the system may not assist steering or the "hands off" warning may not operate properly. When towing a trailer, make sure to turn off the LKA system.
  • When towing a trailer, make sure that you have turned off the LKA system.
