Keep Hands on Steering Wheel

Hyundai Palisade. Warning Light and Message

If the driver removes hands from the steering wheel for several seconds while the LKA system is active, the system will warn the driver.

Information

If you hold the steering wheel very lightly, a message may appear because the LKA system may not detect that the driver has hands on the wheel.

WARNING

The warning message may be delayed depending on road conditions. Therefore, always keep hands on the steering wheel while driving.

WARNING

  • The LKA system is a supplementary system only. It is the driver's responsibility to drive safely and keep the vehicle in its lane.
  • Turn off the LKA system and drive without using the system in the following situations:
    - In bad weather
    - On poor road conditions
    - When the steering wheel needs to be controlled by the driver frequently.

Information

  • Even though steering is assisted by the system, the driver must still hold the steering wheel to control it.
  • The steering wheel may feel heavier when steering is assisted by the system than when it is not.

Inspection of the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) System

Hyundai Palisade. Warning Light and Message

If there is a problem with the system, a message will appear for several seconds. If the problem continues, the LKA system malfunction indicator will illuminate.

LKA System Indicator

Hyundai Palisade. Warning Light and Message

The LKA system indicator (yellow) will illuminate if the LKA system is not operating properly. Have your vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

When a problem occurs with the system, perform one of the following actions:

  • Turn the system on after the engine is turned off and then started again.
  • Check whether the ignition switch is in the ON position.
  • Check whether the system is affected by weather conditions (e.g., fog, heavy rain, etc.).
  • Check whether there are any foreign objects on the camera lens.

If the problem is not resolved, have your vehicle checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

The LKA system will not be in the ENABLED state and/or steering assistance will not be provided when:

  • The turn signal is activated before a lane change. If you change lanes without activating the turn signal, the steering wheel may be controlled.
  • The vehicle is not centered in the lane when the system is turned on or immediately after changing lanes.
  • ESC (Electronic Stability Control) or VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) is activated.
  • The vehicle is driving through a sharp curve.
  • Vehicle speed is below 35 mph (56 km/h) and more than 177 km/h.
  • The vehicle makes a sudden lane change.
  • The vehicle brakes suddenly.
  • The lane is very wide or narrow.
  • There are more than two lanes on the road (e.g., construction site).
  • The radius of the curve is too small.
  • The vehicle is driving on a steep incline.
  • The steering wheel is turned sharply.
  • The system may not operate for 15 seconds after the engine is started or until the camera is initialized.
