Description

The Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAPS) is a density-type sensor. It is installed on the surge tank and measures the absolute pressure in the surge tank, then outputs an analog signal proportional to the pressure to the ECM. Using this signal, the ECM calculates the intake air volume and engine speed. The MAPS consists of a piezoelectric element and a hybrid IC that amplifies the output signal of the element. The element is a silicon diaphragm type and uses the pressure-sensitive variable resistance effect of a semiconductor. Because vacuum and intake manifold pressure are applied to each side of the sensor, the sensor can output an analog signal proportional to the pressure change using the silicon element.
