Description and Operation
Description
The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMPS) is a Hall effect sensor that detects the camshaft position using a Hall effect element. It works together with the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) and identifies the piston position of each cylinder, which the CKPS system cannot detect. The CMPS is installed on the cylinder head cover and uses a vane-type target installed on the camshaft. The camshaft position sensor is a Hall effect sensor. When the target wheel passes the sensor, the change in magnetic field in the sensor activates the sensor, which generates a square wave signal.
