Description and Operation

Description

The rail pressure sensor (RPS) is installed on the fuel rail and measures the instantaneous fuel pressure in the fuel rail. The sensing element (semiconductor element) built into the sensor converts the pressure into a voltage signal. Using this signal, the ECM can control the correct injection amount and injection timing, and adjusts the fuel pressure with the fuel pressure regulator valve if the target pressure and the actual pressure calculated from the RPS output signal differ.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Connect the GDS to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Measure the RPS output voltage at idle and at various engine speeds.
    Condition Output voltage (V)
    Time-Lapse Photography Approx. 1.2
    1500 rpm 2,2 - 2,5
    6300 rpm Approx. 3.0

DEPOSIT

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Release the residual pressure in the fuel line. (Refer to Fuel System - Repair Procedures - Releasing Residual Pressure in the Fuel Line)
  3. Remove the intake manifold (Refer to INTAKE AND EXHAUST SYSTEM).
  4. Remove the foam from the injector (A).
  5. Disconnect the rail pressure sensor connector (A), then remove the rail pressure sensor (B) from the delivery pipe.

REMEDY

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Rail pressure sensor installation: 30.0 ~ 35 N·m
