Description and Operation

Description

The Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IATS) is built into the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAFS) and measures the temperature of the intake air. To calculate the accurate air quantity, an air temperature correction is required because air density depends on temperature. The ECM uses signals from both the MAFS and the IATS. This sensor has a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC), and its resistance is inversely proportional to temperature.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the IAT sensor connector.
  3. Measure the resistance between terminals 3 and 4 of the IAT sensor.
  4. Check that the resistance is within specification.

    Specification: Refer to "Specifications"

DEPOSIT

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the manifold absolute pressure sensor connector (B).
  3. Loosen the installation bolt (B), then remove the balance tank sensor.

REMEDY

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Intake air temperature sensor mounting bolt: 9.8 – 11.8 N·m
