Rocking the Vehicle
If it is necessary to rock the vehicle to free it from snow, sand, or mud, first turn the steering wheel left and right to clear the area around the front wheels.
Then, for vehicles with a manual transmission, shift between reverse and forward gear (1st gear and reverse), and for vehicles with an automatic transmission, shift between "R" (reverse) and any forward drive position.
Do not race the engine. The wheels should turn as slowly as possible.
If you cannot get out after several attempts, to prevent engine overheating and possible transmission damage, use another vehicle and tow your vehicle out of the hazardous area.
Repeated wheel spin while the vehicle is stationary may overheat the tires, causing them to burst and injure persons nearby.
NOTE
Before rocking the vehicle, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) must be turned off.
WARNING
If the vehicle is stuck in snow, mud, sand, or similar, you may want to free it by rocking it back and forth. Do not do this if there are people or objects near the vehicle. While rocking, the vehicle may suddenly break free, move forward or backward, and cause injury to people or damage to objects nearby.

Making Smooth Turns
Avoid braking or changing gears while turning, especially on wet roads. Ideally, turns should always be taken with light acceleration. Following these recommendations helps minimize tire wear.
