Driving Your Vehicle

Using ABS

~2min read

To get the maximum benefit from your ABS in an emergency, do not attempt to modulate brake pressure and do not pump the brakes. Press the brake pedal as hard as possible.

When you apply the brake under conditions that may lock the wheels, you may hear brake noise or feel a corresponding sensation in the brake pedal. This is normal and means that your ABS is active.

The ABS does not reduce the time or distance needed to stop the vehicle.

Always keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you.

The ABS does not prevent skidding caused by sudden changes in direction, such as trying to take a corner too fast or a sudden lane change. Always drive at a speed and in a manner appropriate for road and weather conditions.

ABS cannot prevent loss of directional stability. Always keep the steering wheel moderately steady when braking hard. Sharp or abrupt steering may cause your vehicle to swerve into oncoming traffic or leave the road.

On loose or uneven road surfaces, the operation of the anti-lock braking system may increase braking distance compared with vehicles equipped with a conventional brake system.

ABS () illuminates for several seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON.

During this time, the ABS performs a self-check, and the light turns off if everything is normal. If the light stays on, contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.

WARNING

If the ABS ( ) warning light stays on, you may have a problem with the ABS. Your power brakes will still operate normally. To reduce the risk of serious injury or death, have the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.

Information

When you drive on a road with poor traction, such as an icy road, and apply the brakes continuously, the ABS remains active and the ABS ( ) warning light may illuminate. Pull your vehicle to a safe place and turn off the vehicle.

Restart the vehicle. If the ABS warning light does not come on, your ABS system is normal. If it does, contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.

Information

When you start your vehicle with a discharged battery, the ABS ( ) warning light may illuminate at the same time. This does not mean that your ABS is malfunctioning. Have the battery charged before driving the vehicle.
