Engine Restart from Auto Stop

~1min read

When the gear selector is in NEUTRAL, the engine will restart when the clutch pedal is depressed (full pedal travel is not required). The vehicle will enter the STOP/START AUTO STOP ACTIVE state. The SYSTEM IS NOT READY while the vehicle speed is above 8 km/h.

Conditions that may cause the engine to restart automatically from the STOP/START AUTO STOP ACTIVE state

The engine will restart automatically when:

  • The actual cabin temperature differs significantly from the temperature set in Auto HVAC.
  • The HVAC is set to full defrost mode.
  • The HVAC temperature or manual fan speed is adjusted higher.
  • The STOP/START AUTO STOP ACTIVE time exceeds 5 minutes.
  • Battery voltage drops too low.
  • The vehicle is moving at a speed greater than 5 mph (8 km/h).
  • The STOP/START OFF switch is pressed.
  • The transfer case is in 4WD Low or N (Neutral).
  • The steering wheel is turned beyond the threshold (ESS models only).
