When to Use 4WD Low Range
When driving off-road, shift to 4WD Low for additional traction and control on slippery or difficult terrain, steep hills, and to increase pulling power at low speeds. This range should be used only when conditions require it, such as deep snow, mud, steep grades, or sand, where additional low-speed pulling power is needed. Do not exceed a vehicle speed of 25 mph (40 km/h) when in 4WD Low.
Simultaneous Brake and Accelerator Operation
Many off-road driving conditions require simultaneous use of the brake and accelerator (two-foot driving). When climbing over rocks, logs, or other stepped obstacles, applying light brake pressure with light throttle will keep the vehicle from lurching or jerking. This technique is also used when you need to stop and restart the vehicle on a steep grade.
