Detection Sensor

~2min read

The rear corner radar sensors are sensors inside the rear bumper for detecting side/rear areas. If foreign matter is painted on the rear corner radar and bumper, the sensor may not operate properly.

Always keep the rear bumper clean for proper system operation.

CAUTION

  • The system may not operate properly when the rear bumper has been damaged, or if the rear bumper has been replaced, repaired, or painted.
  • The system may be deactivated due to strong electromagnetic waves.
  • Always keep the rear corner radar sensors and sensor area of the rear bumper clean.
  • NEVER disassemble the sensor component or apply any impact to the sensor component.
  • Be careful not to apply unnecessary force to the rear corner radar sensor or rear bumper. If the sensor is forcibly moved out of proper alignment, the system may not operate properly. In this case, the warning message may not be displayed. Have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
  • Do not attach foreign objects, such as a bumper sticker or bumper guard, near the rear corner radar sensor, or apply paint to the sensor area. This may adversely affect sensor performance.

• This warning message may appear when:

- One or both rear corner radar sensors on the rear bumper are blocked by mud, snow, or a foreign object.
- Driving in rural areas where the sensor does not detect other vehicles for a long period of time.
- In bad weather such as heavy snow or rain.
- When a trailer or carrier is attached to the rear corner radar sensor area.

If any of these conditions occur, the system will turn off automatically.

✽ NOTICE

Turn off BCW, BCA, and RCCA when installing a trailer or carrier.

  • Press the Blind-Spot Safety button to turn it off (the indicator on the switch will turn off).
  • Deactivate BCW and BCA by selecting "Settings > Driver Assistance > Blind-Spot Safety > Off".
  • Deactivate RCCW and RCCA by unchecking "Settings > Driver Assistance > Parking Safety > Rear Cross-Traffic Safety".

When the BCW disabled warning message is displayed in the instrument cluster, check that the rear bumper is clean of mud and snow in the areas where the sensor is located. Remove any mud, snow, or foreign objects that may interfere with the radar sensors.

After mud or debris has been removed, the RCCA system should operate normally after approximately 10 minutes of driving the vehicle.

If the system does not operate normally even after the foreign matter, trailer, carrier, or other equipment has been removed, have the system checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

Check Blind-Spot Collision Warning System

If there is a problem with the BCW system, a warning message will appear. The system will turn off automatically. RCCW and RCCA will also not operate if the BCW system turns off due to a malfunction. In this case, have the system checked by an authorized Kia dealer.
