Driving Your Vehicle

DCT Warning Messages

~2min read

■ Type A

■ Type B

This warning message is displayed when the vehicle is moving slowly on a slope and the vehicle detects that the brake pedal is not depressed.

Steep Slope

Driving uphill or on a steep slope:

  • To hold the vehicle on a slope, use the foot brake or the parking brake.
  • When driving with frequent stops on a slope, keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead before moving forward. Then hold the vehicle on the slope with the foot brake.
  • If the vehicle is held on a hill by depressing the accelerator pedal or creeping with the brake pedal released, the clutch and transmission may overheat, which may cause damage. In this situation, a warning message will appear on the LCD display.
  • If the LCD warning is active, you must apply the foot brake.
  • Ignoring warnings may result in transmission damage.

High Transmission Temperature

  • Under certain conditions, such as repeated stop-and-go starts on steep hills, sudden takeoffs or acceleration, or other severe driving conditions, the clutch temperature may rise excessively. As a result, the clutch in the transmission may overheat.
  • If the clutch overheats, the safety protection mode is activated and the gear position indicator on the cluster flashes with a chime. In this situation, the warning message "Temp is High! Stop Safely." appears on the LCD display, and driving may not be smooth.
  • In this case, stop in a safe place, keep the engine running, depress the brake, shift the vehicle to P (Park), and allow the transmission to cool.
  • If you ignore this warning, driving conditions may deteriorate. You may experience abrupt shifts, frequent gear changes, or jerking. To return to normal driving conditions, stop the vehicle, apply the foot brake or shift to P (Park). Then allow the transmission to cool for several minutes with the engine running before driving away.
  • Drive the vehicle smoothly whenever possible.

Transmission Overheated

  • If the vehicle continues to be driven and the clutch temperature reaches the maximum temperature limit, "Transmission Hot! Park with Engine Running" will appear. When this occurs, the clutch is disengaged until it cools to normal temperature.
  • The warning will display the time to wait until the transmission cools down.
  • In this case, stop in a safe place, keep the engine running, depress the brake, shift the vehicle to P (Park), and allow the transmission to cool.
  • When the message "Transmission Cooled. Resume Driving." appears, you may continue driving your vehicle.
  • Drive the vehicle smoothly whenever possible.

If any of the warning messages on the LCD display continues to flash, for your safety, we recommend having the system inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
