Drive Belt
Repair Procedures
Inspection
Inspect the belt for wear and abnormal wear of the ribbed portion. Replace if necessary.
Visually inspect the belt for excessive wear, frayed cords, etc.
If any defect is found, replace the drive belt.

Removal and Installation
[Gamma 1.6 MPI/T-GDI]
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Loosen the generator mounting bolts (A) and turn the adjusting bolt (B) counterclockwise to loosen the drive belt tension.
Tightening Torque
M8 Bolt:
19,6–26 N·m
M10 bolt:
29,4–41 N·m

Remove the drive belt (A).

Install in the reverse order of removal.
[NU 2.0 MPI]
Remove the engine room cover.
(See Engine and Transaxle Assembly - Under Hood)
Using a wrench, turn the automatic tensioner pulley (A) counterclockwise, then remove the drive belt (B).

Install in the reverse order of removal.
[Gamma 1.6 T-GDI]
Loosen the generator mounting bolts (A).
Loosen the drive belt tension by loosening the adjusting bolt (B).
Tightening torque:
12 mm (0.47 in.) bolt:
26.5–37 N·m [Class 10T]
24.3–27 N·m [Class 8T]
14 mm (0.55 in.) bolt:
29,4–41 N·m

Install in the reverse order of removal.
[New U 1.6 TCI]
Remove the engine room cover.
(See Engine and Transaxle Assembly - Engine Compartment Cover)
To release the tensioner, turn the tensioner arm by turning the tensioner arm boss (A) clockwise with a wrench.

Remove the drive belt (A).

Install in the reverse order of removal.
Adjustment
[Gamma 1.6 MPI/T-GDI]
Drive Belt Tension Measurement and Adjustment
Belt Tension Measurement
Measure the belt tension using a mechanical tension gauge or sonic tension meter.
Voltage
New belt:
980.7–1078.7 N (100.0–110.0 kgf, 220.5–242.5 lbf)
Used belt:
706.1–804.1 N (72.0–82.0 kgf, 158.7–180.8 lbf)
Using a mechanical belt tension gauge (BT-33-73F, BTG-2 type)
While pressing the handle (A) of the gauge, install the belt (B) between the pulley and the idler pulley (or tensioner pulley) in the gap between the spindle (C) and the hook (D).

Release the handle (A) and read the value on the dial indicated by the pointer (B).

Using an acoustic belt tension gauge (U-505/507 type)
Enter the belt specifications into the tension gauge.

If adjustment is required:
[Gamma 1.6 MPI/T-GDI]
Loosen the mounting bolts (A).
Slightly tighten the adjusting bolt (B) counterclockwise; loosen the bolt clockwise for high tension.

Recheck the belt tension.
After adjusting the tension, tighten the through bolts.
Tightening Torque
12 mm (0.47 in.) bolt:
19,6–26 N·m
14 mm (0.55 in.) bolt:
29,4–41 N·m
[Gamma 1.6 T-GDI]
Loosen the mounting bolts (A).
Turn the adjusting bolt (B) slightly clockwise to increase tension; turn counterclockwise to decrease tension.

Recheck the belt tension.
After adjusting the tension, tighten the through bolts.
Tightening Torque
12 mm (0.47 in.) bolt:
26.5–37 N·m [Class 10T]
24.3–27 N·m [Class 8T]
14 mm (0.55 in.) bolt:
29,4–41 N·m
