System Malfunction

~2min read
  • If the FCA system does not operate properly, the FCA indicator light () will illuminate and a warning message will appear for several seconds. After the message disappears, the master warning light () will illuminate. In this situation, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
  • The FCA system will be deactivated for the driver's safety when the ESC warning light comes on. The FCA warning light and warning message also appear at the same time. However, this does not necessarily mean the FCA system is malfunctioning. The FCA warning light and warning message will go off as soon as the ESC warning light issue is resolved.

WARNING

  • FCA is only a supplemental system for driver convenience. It is the driver's responsibility to control the vehicle. Do not rely solely on the FCA system. Rather, maintain a safe braking distance and, when necessary, depress the brake pedal to reduce speed.
  • FCA may output warning messages and alerts unnecessarily. Also, due to perception limitations, FCA may not issue alerts in certain situations. Refer to the "System Limitations" section for more information.
  • When there is a malfunction in FCA, FCA brake control does not operate for collision risk detection even though other brake systems operate normally.
  • The FCA system only recognizes vehicles ahead when driving forward. It does not identify any animals or vehicles in the reverse direction.
  • FCA cannot recognize intersections or parked vehicles presenting a side profile.
  • If the vehicle ahead stops suddenly, you may not have enough time to apply the brakes. Therefore, always maintain a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead.
  • The FCA system may activate during braking and the vehicle may stop suddenly. If this happens, any load in the vehicle may pose a risk to the passengers. Therefore, always be aware of the amount of cargo in the vehicle.
  • The FCA system may not activate if the driver applies the brake pedal to avoid the risk of a collision.
  • The FCA system does not operate when the vehicle is in reverse. In these cases, you must maintain a safe braking distance and, if necessary, press the brake pedal to reduce vehicle speed to maintain a safe distance.
  • The normal braking function will operate normally even if there is a problem with the FCA brake control system or other functions. In this case, brake control will not operate in the event of a collision risk.
  • The FCA system may not activate in certain situations, depending on driving conditions, road traffic, weather, road conditions, etc.
  • The FCA system may not respond to all types of vehicles.
