System Setting and Activation

System Settings

When the ignition switch is turned ON, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) is activated automatically. The system can be deactivated by the driver using the instrument panel as follows: User Settings → Driver Assistance → Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist.

The warning light illuminates on the LCD display when the FCA system is turned off. The driver can check the FCA ON/OFF status on the LCD display. In addition, the warning light illuminates when ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is turned off. If the warning light remains illuminated while FCA is activated, have the system inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

The driver can select the initial warning timing in the User Settings on the instrument cluster LCD display. Options for the initial Forward Collision Warning are as follows:

• EARLY – When this setting is selected, the initial Forward Collision Warning is activated earlier than normal. This setting maximizes the distance to the vehicle ahead before the initial warning occurs. If the EARLY setting seems too sensitive, change it to NORMAL. When the vehicle ahead suddenly stops, the warning may seem to activate later, even if the EARLY setting is selected.

• NORMAL – When this setting is selected, the initial Forward Collision Warning is activated at the normal timing. Compared with the EARLY setting, this setting reduces the distance to the vehicle ahead before the initial warning occurs.

• LATE – When this setting is selected, the initial Forward Collision Warning is activated later than normal. This setting reduces the distance to the vehicle ahead before the initial warning occurs. Select this setting only when traffic is light and you are driving slowly.

Activation Conditions

FCA is ready to activate when FCA is selected on the LCD display and the following conditions are met.

- ESC is turned on.
- Vehicle speed is above 10 km/h. (However, FCA activates within a certain vehicle speed range.)
- A vehicle ahead is detected. (However, FCA deactivates depending on the conditions of the vehicle ahead and the vehicle systems, but only some warnings are given.)
- FCA is automatically deactivated when ESC is turned off. When ESC is turned off, FCA cannot be activated on the LCD display. In this situation, the FCA warning light illuminates.

WARNING

  • FCA is automatically activated when the ignition switch is turned ON. The driver can turn off FCA by deselecting the system setting on the LCD display.
  • FCA is automatically deactivated when ESC is turned off. When ESC is turned off, FCA cannot be activated on the LCD display. The FCA warning light illuminates but does not indicate a system malfunction.
  • Turn FCA on or off using the steering wheel control switches after stopping the vehicle in a safe location.
