Driving Your Vehicle

Vehicle-to-vehicle distance setting

~2min read

To set the vehicle-to-vehicle distance:

This feature allows the vehicle to be programmed to maintain a relative distance from the vehicle ahead without pressing the accelerator pedal or brake pedal.

The vehicle-to-vehicle distance will be automatically activated when the Smart Cruise Control system is turned on. Select an appropriate distance depending on road conditions and vehicle speed.

Each time the button is pressed, the vehicle-to-vehicle distance changes as follows:

For example, if you are driving at 90 km/h (56 mph), the following distances apply:

Distance 4 - approximately 52.5 m (172 ft)

Distance 3 - approximately 40 m (131 ft)

Distance 2 - approximately 32.5 m (107 ft)

Distance 1 - approximately 25 m (82 ft)

✽ NOTICE

The distance is set to the last distance selected when the system was used after the engine was started.

When the lane ahead is clear:

The vehicle speed will be maintained at the set speed.

WARNING - Following Distance

  • To avoid collisions, always be aware of the set speed and inter-vehicle distance setting when the Smart Cruise Control system is activated.
  • Always maintain sufficient braking distance and decelerate your vehicle by applying the brakes when necessary.

If there is a vehicle ahead of you in your lane:

  • The vehicle will maintain the set speed when the lane ahead is clear.
  • The vehicle will decelerate or accelerate to maintain the selected distance when there is a vehicle ahead of you in your lane. (The vehicle icon will appear in front of your vehicle on the LCD only when there is an actual vehicle ahead)
  • If the vehicle ahead accelerates, your vehicle will travel at a constant cruising speed after accelerating to the selected speed.

CAUTION

  • A warning chime sounds and the LCD flashes if it is difficult to maintain the selected distance to the vehicle ahead.
  • If the warning chime sounds, actively adjust the vehicle speed by depressing the brake pedal according to the road conditions ahead and driving conditions.
  • Even if the warning chime is not activated, always pay attention to driving conditions to prevent hazardous situations from occurring.
  • Be attentive to road conditions, as the radio and external sounds or conditions may interrupt the warning chime.

If a vehicle ahead (vehicle speed: less than 30 km/h) moves out into an adjacent lane, a warning chime sounds and a message appears. Adjust your vehicle speed for vehicles or objects that may suddenly appear ahead of you by depressing the brake pedal according to the road and driving conditions ahead.
