Using an iPod® device

~5min read
  • Some iPod® models may not support the communication protocol, and files may not play correctly. Supported iPod® models: iPhone® 3GS/4, iPod® touch 1st–4th generation, iPod® nano 1st–6th generation, iPod® classic.
  • The order of searching or playing songs on the iPod® may differ from the search order on the audio system.
  • If the iPod® is disabled due to its own malfunction, reset the iPod®. (To reset: refer to the iPod® manual.)
  • The iPod® may not operate normally when the battery is low.
  • Some iPod® devices, such as the iPhone, can be connected via Bluetooth® wireless technology. The device must have Bluetooth® audio wireless technology capability (e.g., Bluetooth® wireless technology for stereo headphones). The device can play, but it cannot be controlled by the audio system.
  • To use the iPod® functions with the audio system, use the cable supplied with the iPod® device.
  • Depending on the characteristics of your iPod®/iPhone® device, skipping or malfunction may occur.
  • If your iPhone® is connected via Bluetooth® wireless technology, USB audio may not play correctly. On your iPhone, select the Dock connector or Bluetooth® wireless technology to change the audio output (source).
  • When connecting the iPod® with the iPod® cable, insert the connector fully into the multimedia jack. If it is not fully inserted, communication between the iPod® and the audio system may be interrupted.
  • When adjusting the sound effects of the iPod® and the audio system, the sound effects of both devices will overlap and may reduce or distort sound quality.
  • Deactivate (turn off) the iPod® equalizer function when adjusting the audio system volume, and turn off the audio system equalizer when using the iPod® equalizer.
  • If the iPod® is not used with the car audio system, disconnect the iPod® cable from the iPod®. Otherwise, the iPod® may remain in accessory mode and operate incorrectly.

Before using Bluetooth® Handsfree

What is Bluetooth®?

  • Bluetooth® is a short-range wireless communication technology that uses the 2.4 GHz to 2.48 GHz frequency band to connect various devices within a certain distance.
  • Supported by PCs, peripherals, Bluetooth® phones, PDAs, and various electronic devices and automotive environments, Bluetooth® allows data to be transmitted at high speeds without a connecting cable.
  • Bluetooth® Handsfree refers to a system that allows the user to conveniently make phone calls from Bluetooth® mobile phones through the audio system.
  • Bluetooth® Handsfree may not be supported by some mobile phones. For more information on mobile device compatibility, visit www.kia.com.

Safety Precautions for Driving

  • Bluetooth® Handsfree is a function that allows drivers to drive safely. Connecting the headset to a Bluetooth® phone allows the user to conveniently make and receive calls and use contacts. Before using Bluetooth®, carefully read the contents of this user's manual.
  • Excessive use or operations while driving may lead to careless driving habits and cause accidents. Refrain from excessive operations while driving.
  • Looking at the screen for a long period of time is dangerous and may lead to accidents. While driving, look at the screen only for short periods of time.

When connecting a phone via Bluetooth®

  • Before connecting the head unit to a mobile phone, make sure the mobile phone supports Bluetooth® functions.
  • Even if the phone supports Bluetooth®, the phone will not be detected during device search if the phone is set to hidden mode or Bluetooth® power is off. Turn off hidden mode or turn on Bluetooth® power before searching for/connecting to the head unit.
  • The Bluetooth phone connects automatically when the ignition is turned on.
  • If you do not want automatic connection to a Bluetooth® device, turn off the Bluetooth® function on your mobile phone.
  • Hands-free call volume and quality may vary depending on the mobile phone.
  • Park the vehicle when connecting the head unit to a mobile phone.
  • The Bluetooth® connection may be interrupted periodically on some mobile phones. Perform the following actions to try again. On the mobile phone, turn the Bluetooth® function off and on, then try again. Turn the mobile phone power off and on, then try again. Fully remove the mobile phone battery, restart the phone, then reinstall it. Restart the audio system and try again. Delete all paired devices, pair them again and try again.
  • Hands-free call quality and volume may vary depending on the mobile phone model.

Voice Recognition

  • When using the voice recognition function, only the commands listed in the Owner's Manual are supported.
  • Note that while the voice recognition system is operating, pressing any key other than themode.key will stop voice recognition mode.
  • For best voice recognition, position the voice recognition microphone above the driver's seat head and maintain the proper position when speaking commands.
  • In the following situations, voice recognition may not work properly due to external noise: When windows and sunroof are open; When strong wind is blowing; Cooling/heating device operating at high level; When driving through tunnels; When driving on rough or uneven roads; During heavy rain (downpour, storm).
  • Phone-related voice commands can only be used when a Bluetooth® wireless technology device is connected.
  • To make calls by name, the corresponding contacts must be downloaded and saved in the audio system.
  • After downloading the phonebook via Bluetooth® wireless technology, the system needs some time to convert the phonebook data into voice information. During this time, voice recognition may not work properly.
  • Speak voice commands naturally and clearly, as in normal conversation.
