SRS Control Module (SRSCM) Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The main purpose of the SRSCM (Supplemental Restraint System Control Module) is to determine an event that requires deployment of the airbag system. The SRSCM must decide whether the restraint devices should be deployed or not. After determining that the seat belt pretensioners and/or airbags must be deployed, the SRSCM must supply sufficient energy to the pretensioners and airbag squibs to initiate deployment. The SRSCM determines whether the impact requires deployment of the pretensioners and/or airbags based on data received from the impact sensors and other components in combination with the safing function. The SRSCM will not be ready to detect a crash event or activate restraint devices until the signals in the SRSCM circuits have stabilized. Although it is possible that the SRSCM may activate the restraint devices, it is guaranteed to function fully only after the inspection is completed. The SRSCM must perform the diagnostic procedure and illuminate the SRS warning lamp when the ignition is turned on. The system must perform a continuous diagnostic procedure and indicate a malfunction through the warning lamp if a fault is detected. The serial diagnostic communication interface will be used to facilitate servicing of the restraint control system. The yaw and acceleration sensors used for ESC are located inside the SRSCM. The sensor signal is sent via a separate CAN signal between the ESC control module and the SRSCM.
