Side Impact Sensor (SIS)
Description and Operation
Description
The side impact sensor (SIS) system consists of two pressure-type side impact sensors. The pressure sensor (P-SIS) is installed in each front door module center (left and right), two G-SIS are installed on each center pillar (left and right), and two rear SIS are installed in the rear pillar (left and right).
The pressure-type side impact sensor is also called P-SIS because it detects the pressure from a collision at its installed location.
The side impact sensor is also called A-SIS because it detects acceleration.
The SRSCM determines airbag deployment and deployment timing through the SIS collision signal when a collision occurs.

Repair Procedures
Removal
Front Side Pressure Impact Sensor (P-SIS)
Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least thirty seconds before starting work.
Remove the front door trim panel.
(Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - Front Door Trim Panel)
Remove the side pressure impact sensor (A).

Loosen the side pressure impact sensor mounting screw and remove the sensor (A).
Tightening torque: 7.8–11.7 N·m

Front Gravity Side Impact Sensor (G-SIS)
Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least thirty seconds before starting work.
Remove the door scuff trim.
(Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - Door Scuff Trim)
Remove the center pillar trim.
(Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - Center Pillar Trim)
After disconnecting the side impact sensor connector (A) and loosening the bolt (B), remove the sensor.
Tightening torque: 2.9–3.9 N·m

Rear Side Impact Sensor (R-SIS)
Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least thirty seconds before starting work.
Remove the rear seat assembly.
(Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - Rear Seat Assembly)
Disconnect the rear side impact sensor connector (A).
Loosen the rear side impact sensor nut (B) and remove the sensor.
Tightening torque: 7.8–11.7 N·m

Installation
Front Side Pressure Impact Sensor (P-SIS)
Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least thirty seconds before starting work.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
After installing the side impact sensor, check that the system operates properly.
• Turn the ignition on. The SRS indicator should illuminate for approximately six seconds, then turn off.
Front Gravity Side Impact Sensor (G-SIS)
Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least thirty seconds before starting work.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
After installing the side impact sensor, check that the system operates correctly:
• Turn the ignition on. The SRS indicator should illuminate for approximately six seconds, then turn off.
Rear Side Impact Sensor (R-SIS)
Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least thirty seconds before starting work.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
After installing the side impact sensor, check that the system operates correctly:
• Turn the ignition on. The SRS indicator should illuminate for approximately six seconds, then turn off.
