BCW (Blind-Spot Collision Warning) / LCA (Lane Change Assist)

~2min read

Operating Conditions

The indicator lamp in the switch illuminates when the BCW (Blind-Spot Collision Warning) switch is pressed with the ignition on. The system is activated when vehicle speed exceeds 30 km/h.

If you press the switch again, the switch indicator lamp turns off and the system is deactivated.

If the ignition is turned off and then back on, the system returns to its previous state.

When you do not use the system, turn it off by pressing the switch.

When the system is turned on, the warning lamp on the outside mirror illuminates for 3 seconds.

Warning type

The system is activated when:

1. The system is turned on.

2. Vehicle speed is above 30 km/h

3. Other vehicles approaching from behind are detected.

If a vehicle is detected within the detection zone, the warning lamp on the outside mirrors illuminates.

If the detected vehicle leaves the detection zone, the indicator lamp changes according to the driving conditions.

The second-level warning is activated if:

1. The first-level warning is activated.

2. The turn signal is on and you change lanes.

When the second-level warning is activated, the warning lamp on the mirror flashes and an alarm sounds. If the turn signal lever is returned to its original position, the second-level warning is deactivated again.

- The second-level warning can be turned off.

  • To activate the alarm: Go to the "Driver Assistance" user settings and activate BCW (Blind-Spot Collision Warning) on the LCD display.
  • To deactivate the alarm: Go to the "Driver Assistance" user settings and deactivate BCW (Blind-Spot Collision Warning) on the LCD display.

DANGER

The alarm function helps the driver recognize warning situations. Deactivate this function only if necessary.

Sensor detection

Sensors on rear bumper.

Keep the rear bumper clean for the system to function properly.

Warning message

The message "Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) system off. Radar blocked" is displayed to warn the driver that foreign objects are on the rear bumper or the rear bumper area is too hot. The switch light goes off and the system switches off automatically.

Remove foreign matter from the rear bumper.

After removing the foreign matter, the system operates normally after driving for about 10 minutes.

If the system does not operate normally even after foreign matter has been removed, have the system inspected by a specialist workshop. Kia recommends visiting a Kia dealer/service partner.

The message may appear even when there are no foreign objects on the rear bumper, for example when driving in sparsely populated or open areas, such as desert regions, where the system does not have enough data to operate.

This message may also appear in strong wind, rain or spray. In this case, no service is required.

If the system malfunctions, the warning message "Check Blind-Spot Detection System" appears and the switch light goes off. The system switches off automatically.

In this case, have the system checked by a specialist workshop. Kia recommends visiting a Kia dealer/service partner.
