Ignition Lock

Zündschlossstellungen

LOCK

The steering wheel lock is engaged in this position (theft protection). The ignition key can only be removed in the LOCK position.

ACC (Accessory)

The steering wheel lock is released and electrical accessories can be switched on.

WARNING

ON

The warning lights can be checked before the engine is started. This is the normal operating position after starting the engine.

To prevent battery discharge, do not leave the ignition switch in the ON position when the engine is off.

START

To start the engine, turn the ignition key to START. In this position the starter operates until you release the key. The key then returns to ON. In this position the brake warning light function can be checked.

WARNING

Ignition Switch

  • Never turn the ignition key to LOCK or ACC while the vehicle is moving. This would cause loss of steering and proper braking, which could lead to an accident.
  • The steering wheel lock is not a substitute for the parking brake. Before leaving the driver's seat, always make sure that first gear is engaged on a manual transmission, or the selector lever is in Park (P) on an automatic/DCT, apply the parking brake and turn off the engine. If these precautions are not followed, the vehicle may move suddenly and unexpectedly.
  • Never reach through the steering wheel to the ignition switch or related components while driving. Your arm or hand in this area could cause you to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in an accident and serious or fatal injury.
  • Do not place loose objects in the driver's seat area, as they may move, distract the driver, and cause an accident.
